김동연 경기도지사의 극적인 당선을 보며

선거에서 이기려면 수단을 동원하고 방법을 찾아야 한다. 이준석 대표는 이런 문제에 미숙한 모습을 드러내고 있다고 보인다. 이준석 당 대표는 호감과 비호감이 존재하는 대표적인 인물이라고 생각한다. 그가 경기도지사 선거에 김은혜를 지원하며 다닌 것이 과연 김은혜 후보에게 도움이 되었을까 하는 의문도 든다. 20대 30대 여성들에게 특히 비호감으로 김은혜 후보 선거에 별 도움이 되지 않았을 것으로 필자는 생각한다. 

김동연 후보의 당선은 득표과정이 극적이었지만 그의 승리에 기여한 강용석도 있고 이준석도 있었다. 김동연 후보는 천운을 받아 경기도지사가 되었고 앞으로 김동연 지사는 야권의 중심이 될 수 있을 것이다. 다만 그가 살아온 행적대로 민주당의 강성 이미지를 버리고 중도적인 행보를 취하기를 바란다. 김동연 후보는 보수층에서도 거부감이 없는 후보다. 경기도지사 역할을 훌륭하게 수행하고 나면 차기 대통령으로 거론될 날이 올 것이고 지금의 민주당이 아닌 소속으로 바뀔 수도 있을 것이라 예상해본다. 

윤석열 대통령의 당선이나 김동연 경기도지사의 당선에는 극적인 모멘텀이 있었다. 국가를 통치하는 일이나 경기도를 책임지는 행정에 공통점이 있다면 전 정권처럼 국민 편 가르기를 지양하고 중도층 국민을 보고 가야 하는 일이 제일 중요하다고 생각한다. 앞으로 정치의 중심은 보수나 진보에 치우치지 않는 중도가 중심이 되어야 하는 시대가 올 것이다. 국민의힘도 지금의 모습을 바꿀 필요가 있다. 누가 먼저 바뀌느냐에 따라 국민의 지지를 더 많이 받게 될 것이다.

필자는 개인적으로 수도권인 서울, 경기, 인천의 시장 당선인을 보면서 유권자의 선택이 옳았다는 느낌을 받았다. 정치력과 행정력을 갖춘 후보를 선택했다. 앞으로 4년의 임기가 끝나면 차기 대선주자의 폭이 넓어지게 될 것이 확실해 보인다. 김동연 경기도지사의 능력과 행보를 주시하고자 한다.
